Andy Hart

Andy has been a trustee since 2018. His first involvement in East Africa was leading three University expeditions to South West Uganda from 1995 to 1997, where he was involved in supporting secondary education in new rural schools and working with the local church. He has worked as a vet for 15 years, ten of which were spent working in rural development in central Tanzania. As well as livestock work, he ran safe-water and other development programmes that achieved international recognition featuring in a TV documentary, and coverage by both the BBC and National Geographic magazine. During this time, he was also co-director of Neema Crafts, a social enterprise providing training and employment to differently abled adults. The project employed over 120 adults with disability as well as running a physiotherapy unit for differently abled children and is self-sustaining to this day. Andy became involved in education whilst in Tanzania, acting as a governor of an international school for six years, teaching from year 1 up to A-level and also lecturing and running field trips for undergrad and Masters programmes for two US universities. Since returning to the UK, Andy has retrained and works as a primary school teacher in Harrogate. He has led multiple year 6 trips from his school to Uganda, building a successful link between his school and Way of Salvation.
